Mission : Provide education to deaf people
MISSION STATEMENT

Deaf and hard of hearing people in Cameroon live in very harsh conditions. Education, which is one of the most basic rights of a child, is a considerable obstacle in our context. A single special and private school that fights every day for survival only admits primary school children, even though a sixth grade preparatory class for transition has been operational for a few years. The school welcomes about 300 kids. Pupils come from Yaoundé and its outskirts. This situation forces parents to give up since they can’t cope with the many obstacles. Covering the schoolfees, transportation and other daily bare necessites are simple very challenging. No middle school for deaf is found in the City, and the mainstream schools that accept enrolment of Deaf children simple don’t care for them. No specific arrangements are made to support their learning. No Wonder they are not that many to further their education after elementary School. This is absolutely shocking when you know that from the UN statistics, about 300 000 (figures contested by most organizations) deaf people live in the country.

Besides, after managing with a minimum education in elementary School, grownups and adults are left with very little options which most of the times are manual and menial jobs, like small businesses when they get deceived quite often. Teenage Girls and yound women invove in prostitution, consequently the rates of HIV infection cases are very High among the deaf community. We therefore make awereness campaigns, train, facilitate education and vocational training to bring some relief to the needy Deaf ans hard of hearing people in Cameroon.

NOTRE MISSION
